Being a parent can be a lonely and frightening journey, and if your child is diagnosed as Autistic, has Special Needs, a Disability visual or hidden, then challenges become amplified, as you seek help for you and your child. It can be difficult to try and negotiate the pathways of child development, through the early years of school and beyond and your own mental health can be put under an enormous amount of pressure as you juggle the demands put on you.
Trying to ensure your child’s needs are met by Education are exhausting, such is the wide spectrum of abilities of children and the financial constraints set by the Government on schools. (See my page for Help at Hand).
There are hurdles to jump, hoops to go through and so many people involved with differing opinions on how best you should manage your child. Finding some space to make sense of your situation, is very demanding as I have already suggested.
Getting outside help is a tremendous strain, in that families have to wait for many months, if not years for help. A diagnosis and or/a label, can help open doors to specialized help with the NHS, however waiting lists are also very long, and this is where Change Therapy aims to help bridge that gap while you wait. My therapies are independent of the NHS, and are not designed to duplicate their services nor judge you or your life. I am here to help you balance your life again so that you can function in a more positive way, and in turn should help everyone in the family.
My first-hand experience of the roller coaster of emotions relating to bringing up my own children, one Autistic and the other having Special Needs, can be reassuring to clients, knowing that I am someone who understands both the theory and the practical issues that we, as parents have to manage 24/7.
If you can find a spare hour then come along for a walk and talk, and hopefully this will have a positive impact on not only you, but your family. You decide what type of therapy would benefit you best – there is no fee for my services.
Walks in Nature may be all that you need to re-discover your energy for life, or it may be that Walk and Talk is preferred. I also offer Counselling, again while Walking and Talking, as well as other psychological disciplines dependent on your needs.
Guided Mindfulness is a form of meditation which has been proven to have a variety of benefits. Mindfulness refers to heightened awareness of what is going on within and around you, in the present moment, in a non-judgemental way.
Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress. Have a look at some of my Posts on mindfulness here
Come and try a session out and judge for yourself.
