Baking with our Autistic Child – Part 3

From our day of Baking cakes, I can proudly state that this was very successful. Our son finding relief from his daily struggles with extreme sensitivities to textures, smells and keeping clean, even though only for a couple of hours, is something that we will revisit as often as we can. Our neighbours, family and friends will benefit over the coming months I am sure! The other positive thing that we discovered, is the decrease in anxieties during the busy times of preparation; even waiting for the finished cakes, were less demanding times for our son. Naturally as a parent, … Continue reading Baking with our Autistic Child – Part 3

Baking with our Autistic Child – Part 2

Thinking that the kitchen table would be in an absolute mess of flour, sugar and sticky dough, I was pleasantly surprised that this was not the case. Every plate and utensil was cleaned as soon as they were finished with, and this may have something to do with having a hot bowl of soapy water readily available – bubbles and children often go very well indeed! So, after putting the cup cakes in the oven, then having a light lunch, in anticipation of leaving plenty room for the finished article, it was time to get the icing sugar made. This … Continue reading Baking with our Autistic Child – Part 2

Baking with our Autistic Child – Part 1

Most of the people in the UK have recently had more time on their hands than usual, due to the Lockdown. We were fortunate that we were pretty well stocked up with items that could keep our children busy and engaged. One of the popular activities for families has been trying out Baking from home. The supermarkets and shops emptied of the necessary ingredients of flour, icing and sugar, very quickly and for a couple of months, these items above were like ‘gold dust’ to have.   One of the concerns we had prior to our decision to make Cakes, … Continue reading Baking with our Autistic Child – Part 1

Never judge a No

Never judge others by their NO. Once a bird was searching for a home to lay her eggs and get shelter in the coming rainy season. In her search, she saw two trees and went to ask for shelter. When she asked the first tree. They refused to give her shelter. With disappointment, she went to the second tree. And the second tree, agreed to give her shelter. She made her home and laid her eggs and then the rainy season arrived. The rain was so heavy that the first tree fell and was carried away by the flood. The bird saw this and … Continue reading Never judge a No

Wolf in Sheep skin

A wolf was walking in the countryside. He found a sheep-skin spread on the ground. He thought, “If I wear this skin and get mixed up in the flock, the shepherd will not suspect me. At night, I will kill a stout sheep and then take him away with me”. The wolf covered himself with the sheep-skin and got mixed up with a flock of sheep. As he had expected, the shepherd took him as a sheep and shut him also in the pen. The wolf was waiting for the night. The shepherd had a feast that night. He sent … Continue reading Wolf in Sheep skin

A thought of Struggling in Life

Why is my life full of struggles? A rich man, every night, prays the same prayer to God. He repeats his prayers again and again on a daily basis. In his words, he would ask, “God, please do one favour for me, at least one favour — and I have been asking this my whole life. As clearly as I know, I am the most unhappy man on the earth. Why have you made my life full of problems? I am ready to exchange my difficulties with anybody else; anybody will do — just let me exchange my troubles with … Continue reading A thought of Struggling in Life

The Garbage Truck

David Pollay was in a New York City taxi cab and here’s what happened to him. “I hopped in a taxi, and we took off for Grand Central Station. We were driving in the right lane when all of a sudden, a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, the car skidded, the tires squealed, and at the very last moment our car stopped just one inch from the other car’s back-end. I couldn’t believe it. But then I couldn’t believe what happened next. The driver of … Continue reading The Garbage Truck

Top tips for dealing with draining friends

It’s not your problem – truly “get” that everyone’s health, wealth and happiness is 100% their responsibility. Not yours. Feels good already, doesn’t it? Protect yourself – create strong boundaries with others. The stronger the boundary the more respect they will show you. Be clear with others – how much time and energy you are prepared to give. “I will pop by for 20 minutes”.
